Stevie Stefano

I am a local artist living in Newmarket for over 20 years.

I have always admired those who could paint and bring life to an otherwise blank canvas. Especially those famous artists of the Italian Renaissance.  I had the mindset that one day when I retired  from work I would learn how to paint.

Then in 1999, when an accident put me permanently into a wheelchair, I thought that dream to one day learn how to paint was over.

One day while at a mall I saw an artist painting a portrait.  I mentioned to him how I once had a dream of learning to paint. He didn't understand why I could no longer paint while in my wheelchair and proceeded to show me a laptop easel. Once we had it set up on my lap I realized that I could paint after all. That was 5 years ago and I have been painting ever since.

I enjoy painting in oils using traditional methods and styles from portraiture, landscape, still life and now even learning all about plein-air.

Painting is a big part of my life and it allows me to escape from the reality of my limited abilities.
